We looked forward to passing through the main gate leading to the Zojo Temple, but were met with a prefabricated facade. The curse of the “under renovation” till you leave …

Still standing

Fortunately after a short trip through scaffolding we emerged to see the temple fully visible with the Tokyo Tower soaring above like a sentinel watching over this place of worship.

The Temple was founded by the monk Yuyo Shoso shonin in 1393. It used to be a large-scale temple with more than 120 buildings and more than 100 dormitories, and structures.

Not the most famous of sill standing ancient Temples we hope to see, but a worthy beginning.

We did not take the time to visit the Eiffel like Tokyo Tower but may return if we have time.
