Our first stop in Asakusa starts at the Kaminarimon or Thunder Gate that protects what may once been a bustling market place street that now houses numerous sales stalls catering to the many visitors that we thankfully avoided due to the early hour. (So early that most stores were closed)

Down Nakamise dore (street) we come to a second gate. Hōzōmon Gate heralds our arrival to the Senso-Ji Temple.

A quick wash prepares us to enter the main temple where you can make a prayer wish (after donation) for health, happiness or world peace.

Senso-ji is the oldest temple in Tokyo. Also called the Asakusa Kannon because it houses the Kannon. It is known throughout Japan as an important center of worship which draws 30 million visitors every year.

Then a quick departure before the crowds overtake the grounds we are off to the mid 1940’s. Stay tuned..
