
So off to Shinjuku to meet our food guide.
We start by walking through Omoide Yokochô. Born in the aftermath of World War II when Japan was still in ruins. The area, now hypermodern, once served as a black market where people traded food and daily necessities.
Some streets have returned to the look and feel of that era.

We had been desperate for fresh veggies and cooked fish. Thankfully we finally learn that Japanese don’t just eat sushi, tempura or “flied chicken”.

Over 3 hours we get to taste multiple different styles including the basis for the blue (longest living) zone of Okinawa – mostly vegs and legumes.








But our tour also included walking through one the most vibrant areas of Tokyo where dragons roar and beautiful people walk the streets looking for….
